New Carlisle Community Garden

The New Carlisle Community Garden was established in December of 2015 when the City Council authorized the use of a .31-acre parcel of land that was a part of the Old Madison Elementary School. It is community-organized. The current management is John Krabacher-Director, Kathy Wright-Treasurer, and Karianne Rose-Secretary. We quickly outgrew that spot and are now operating only at the old Westlake School site on Walsh Ave.

Short and tall raised beds have been built to accommodate those with disabilities and large typical garden beds are available. A yearly donation from our City Manager, Randy Bridge allows us to keep up with the mowing. Sales from the Saturday downtown Farmers Market usually provide us with enough to cover the rest, although we are always looking for grants and community partners.

Citizens of the city of New Carlisle can always garden for free. Outside the city limits, there is a $30 charge per season.

There are many individual plots and one large community plot. Crops on the community plot can be maintained by anyone in the community. The crops on this community plot will be used for community purposes: some will be donated to Bethel Churches United Food Pantry, some to the community feeding programs, and some will be sold at the local Farmers Market to generate funds for the future development of the garden.

We always welcome visitors and weeders.
