Streets Maintenance Worker II
OVERVIEW OF POSITION
This is manual work involving the maintenance and operation of all City streets, parks, and cemeteries. The position requires the utilization of specialized motor equipment and may involve construction of public works improvements such as playground equipment replacement and street reconstruction.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent but at times may be performed independently, fulfilling work orders of the Public Service Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May serve as acting Public Works Superintendent during regular superintendent’s absences
- Maintains City Cemetery in a neat, orderly manner; cuts grass, eliminates weeds and trims trees
- Maintains playground and other park equipment in a safe and presentable manner
- Removes trash from parks, City refuse receptacles, and City owned property
- Maintains Divisions grounds and buildings
- Maintains the City in a neat, orderly manner; cuts grass, eliminates weeds and trims trees
- Operates motorized equipment including lawnmowers, dump trucks, and front-end loader/backhoe
- Performs minor maintenance on equipment including lawnmowers and weed eaters
- Maintains City streets and storm sewers to include asphalt and concrete repair
- Works with other Divisions and Departments of the City as needed including participating in ice control and snow removal, road repairs and water and sewer line maintenance
- Responds to emergencies of other Divisions and Departments as needed
PERTINENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must be in sound physical condition
- Ability to learn the operation of motor equipment used by this Division
- Ability to work independently following directions of supervisor
- Ability to work under adverse conditions
- Ability to work an irregular weekly work schedule
- Ability to exercise safety requirements and practices of the construction, excavation, and municipal services trades and in the handling of potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license and the ability to be insured by the city’s insurance carrier.
- Ability to obtain a valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of employment.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
WAGES AND HOURS
- Street Maintenance II $19.25-$23.00 Per Hour, depending on qualifications.
- Standard hours are Monday-Friday, 7a.m.-3:30p.m. with rotational weekend duties.
- Paid rotational standby for after-hours calls.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be a high school graduate (or GED) and combination of education and experience which provides the background to meet the requirements of this position.
